Isn’t it great when an athlete-business partnership seems to align perfectly?
That’s what we may have witnessed on Monday, when LSU basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal and donut giant Krispy Kreme announced a partnership. According to ESPN’s Darrell Rovell, Krispy Kreme named Shaq as its “global spokesman” in conjunction with the big man’s purchase of an iconic Atlanta Krispy Kreme location.
Shaq celebrated the news on Twitter on Monday morning:

According to a report from WSB-TV in Atlanta, Shaq is now the owner of the Ponce de Leon Avenue location of Krispy Kreme, which has been around for more than 60 years.
“In addition to Shaquille’s status as a sports and entertainment icon and businessman, he is known for spreading joy, which aligns with our positioning and mission,” said Tony Thompson, President and CEO of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, according to WSB-TV. “We are confident this partnership will have a big impact for us in Atlanta and around the world.”
Shaq, who is known for his easygoing demeanor in retirement, also was happy with the arrangement.
“Krispy Kreme prides itself on spreading joy and supporting local communities, and that’s a cause that I am thrilled to be a part of,” O’Neal said, per WSB-TV. “Our goal is to help people find their happy place, and what better way than with a box of delicious Krispy Kreme doughnuts.”
