A former LSU legend paid it forward to a current Tigers star with some financial advice on Wednesday.
Former legend Shaquille O’Neal offered current Tigers phenom, Ben Simmons, some words of wisdom as Simmons prepares to leave Baton Rouge, La., after one season for the NBA draft.
“My mother took me shopping and she was like, ‘Balance this checkbook,’” O’Neal said on ESPN’s Mike and Mike, according to NOLA.com’s Ron Higgins. “I couldn’t do it. She said ‘You’re not ready to go. You can go if you want to, but you’re going to be in the 80 percentile of athletes who are broke when it’s all said and done. You’re not ready.’”
Some great advice from mom sure paid off for the Big Aristotle, who was a 15-time All-Star and a four-time NBA champion. O’Neal is currently an NBA analyst on TNT. With Simmons likely to be taken No. 1 overall in this summer’s draft, he should have plenty of money coming his way.
