Star LSU recruit and incoming freshman Andre Anthony will not join the team this year and will take an academic redshirt, coach Les Miles told the media Wednesday.

Anthony will enroll at LSU and begin classes but will not participate in team activities, rejoining the team in the spring.
Anthony fell one point shy of the mark he needed to be deemed eligible to play. Miles expressed disappointment the talented defender would not be able to play his freshman year.

Anthony was a four-star prospect at weakside defensive end, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. He was the 15th best weakside defensive end in the country according to 247Sports.
The Under Armour All-American participant was seen as a big piece of LSU’s recruiting class. Obviously, the Tigers wanted to make sure he got his academics in order first before stepping onto the field.
