Houston head coach Tom Herman has been on or atop nearly every list of possible replacements for Les Miles at LSU.
But Herman claims he has yet to be contacted by anyone about any job opening.
“I can say unequivocally nobody’s contacted me,” Herman told the Houston Chronicle. “But beyond that, I’m never gonna give it the time of day.”
Something’s got to give.
Herman has been a hot commodity basically since arriving at Houston. He turned a dominant three-year run as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator into his first head coaching position with the Cougars, where he’s lost only one game since taking over before the 2015 season.
Among other coaches appearing next to Herman on the likely candidates to be Miles’ replacement are Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher (“I love it at Florida State”), Louisville’s Bobby Petrino (“I’m not interested in going anywhere”) and Stanford’s David Shaw (“Are you serious?”).
Maybe Herman isn’t at the top of LSU’s list and the Tigers haven’t yet moved onto him. Maybe LSU in genuinely not interested (???). Or maybe Tom Herman is like any other coach in college football and would never publicly admit to being contacted or even interested in another job.
“I’m never gonna comment on another job during the season” Herman said to the Chronicle. “It’s not fair to our players. It’s not fair to whatever university these reports are about. It’s not fair to anybody.”
