Verne Lundquist mistakenly says LSU punter is 76 years old during broadcast
CBS commentator Verne Lundquist had an interesting description of punter Jamie Keehn during the second quarter of LSU’s game against Auburn. Lundquist said the punter was 76 years old before an ensuing LSU punt.
Believe it or not, Lundquist was off by 50 years. The Australian punter is only 26 years old. It would be quite impressive for a 76-year old to be able to punt a football 40 yards. It’d also be quite a feat for a 76-year old to still be in college.
UPDATE: Lundquist made light of his gaffe when Keehn entered the game to punt in the third quarter.
“If you’re joining us late, I said (Keehn) was the oldest player on his team and I anointed him as a 76-year-old instead of a 26-year-old,” Lundquist said.
“That’s even old for BYU,” quipped Gary Danielson, Lundquist’s partner in the CBS booth.
