One of baseball’s top prospects has a new decoration in his locker to remind him of his alma mater.
Former LSU shortstop Alex Bregman, who made his MLB debut with the Houston Astros on Monday to thunderous applause, now has an LSU football helmet in his locker.

It’s as close as Bregman has ever gotten to being part of the LSU football team. In the video by MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart, the rookie was asked if he ever played football growing up.
“Not even close,” Bregman said, laughing.
The helmet was a gift from LSU athletic director Joe Alleva, according to the Advocate’s Chandler Rome. He’s also not the only LSU fan in the locker room with a helmet.
It was AD Joe Alleva's idea to send an #LSU football helmet to Bregman. Will Harris, the Astros' All-Star closer, also has one

It’s a fitting gift for Bregman, who was an All-American for the Tigers in 2015. The Astros selected him with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft. If his career goes as well as many think it will, he may eventually be sending some memorabilia back to his alma mater.
