Rome (Ga.) High School is currently on an 18-game winning streak, with a lot of the credit due to a stout defensive front. Anchoring that unit is 3-star LSU commitment Ja’Quon Griffin.
Griffin, a 6-foot, 265-pound defensive lineman, committed to LSU in April at the Tigers’ spring game. At the time, he committed as part of a trio alongside 4-star outside linebacker Adam Anderson and 3-star defensive tackle Jamarcus Chatman, who have since given verbals to UGA and Tennessee, respectively.
Griffin remains the lone Wolf committed to LSU and has remained solid in his pledge. The No. 45-ranked strong-side end is projected as a 5-technique in the Tigers’ 3-4 defensive scheme.
Midway through his senior season, Griffin has recorded 7 sacks, 8 tackles for loss and scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery in the team’s season opener against consensus No. 1 overall prospect Justin Fields. It’s also worth noting the consistent pressure he generates on each snap.
Griffin is one of the 18 current commits in LSU’s 2018 recruiting class, which ranks No. 15 in the nation.
