Before Dak Prescott’s first NFL season is over, Colin Cowherd already thinks he’s better than the reigning MVP.
The FS1 host said Thursday he thinks the rookie out of Mississippi State is a better quarterback than Cam Newton. Prescott has led the Dallas Cowboys to a 12-2 record and a likely No. 1 seed in the NFC. A year after going to the Super Bowl, Newton and the Carolina Panthers are barely in the hunt for a wildcard spot.
“Dak’s better than Cam,” Cowherd said. “He is. He’s more accurate. He’s more precise. He’s more detailed. He’s more mature. He’s more even. His judgment’s terrific. On the field, he doesn’t throw picks. And in front of the microphone, he always says the right thing.”
Cowherd also said the two quarterbacks aren’t judged on the same scale because of where they were drafted. Prescott is a fourth-round pick. So his second loss of the season brought talk of the Cowboys benching him.
Meanwhile, Cowherd said Newton, a former No. 1 overall pick and Heisman winner for Auburn, seems to be immune to criticism.
“You can’t even criticize Cam Newton,” Cowherd said. “Out come the fanboys, the pom-pom waving media.”
Prescott has completed 67.7 percent of his passes this season for 3,418 yards with 20 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. He has 238 rushing yards and 6 rushing touchdowns.
Newton has completed 53.8 percent of his passes for 3,074 yards with 17 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He has 317 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns.
