One by one, the NFL Network has been releasing, via Twitter, its list of top 100 NFL players. Monday was its 10-20 section, and a previously unranked quarterback out of Mississippi State checked in at No. 14.
Yes, Dak Prescott, heading into his second NFL season, is considered at the top of the league’s hierarchy, with only 13 players being deemed better. A bigger compliment, perhaps, is that Drew Brees, a surefire Hall of Fame quarterback and Super Bowl champion, was ranked No. 16.

The masses on Twitter, of course, were either thrilled or furious. Whether he is deserving of No. 14 — or a spot higher or lower — is subjective, though Prescott did put up numbers that cannot be argued.
He did, alongside fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliot and perhaps the best offensive line in football, lead the Cowboys to a 13-3 record. He did win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. He was named to the Pro Bowl. In Week 6, he etched his name into the record books after throwing his 176th consecutive pass without an interception, a record that had previously been held by none other than Tom Brady.
By the end of the season, Prescott’s 11 games with a passer rating north of 100 was another record, surpassing another Super Bowl champion, Russell Wilson.
A slew of other rookie records also don Prescott’s name.
Now will be Prescott’s time to validate both his rookie performance and a new NFL Network ranking.
