Mississippi State star defensive lineman A.J. Jefferson was missing from Saturday’s 56-41 win against Samford, and the news of his absence came as a surprise to most.
That news got even worse in the moments after the Bulldogs’ win, as Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen revealed that the star pass rusher underwent surgery on his elbow on Monday.
While that sounds devastating on the surface, it appears the surgery might have been minor, as Mississippi State beat reporter Logan Lowery notes that Mullen hopes to have Jefferson available to play as soon as next week.

Jefferson is an integral part of a Mississippi State defense that struggled against an FCS opponent without him on Saturday. He leads the Bulldogs in tackles for loss and sacks this season with 10.0 and 4.0, respectively.
