Count Kirk Herbstreit as one person who believes that cowbells will rule the day as Mississippi State hosts LSU in a SEC West showdown in Starkville, Miss. on Saturday.
On his podcast Friday, the ESPN college football analyst stated that the Bulldogs will send the Tigers back to Baton Rouge with their first loss of the young season.
“It’s gonna be Mississippi State loading up with 15 guys at the line of scrimmage against Derrius Guice and that running game. . .the game is being played in Starkville. I love the quarterback for Mississippi State, Nick Fitzgerald.”
The notion for Herbstreit is that the LSU passing game hasn’t come that far under new offensive coordinator Matt Canada and that will hinder quarterback Danny Etling while the Bulldogs stuff the run.
The Bulldogs have been tough on defense so far this season, ranking No. 6 the country in total defense, allowing just 174 yards per game, but shutting down Charleston Southern and Louisiana Tech will prove more difficult.
Herbstreit believes that after Saturday, the nation will begin talking about Dan Mullen’s team.
“When they win, everyone is going to get on the Mississippi State bandwagon.”
