The Bulldogs’ game against the Cougars will air on ESPN. BYU typically plays these high-profile games on Friday nights because of religious restrictions for Saturday night games.
This will be one of the marquee games on BYU’s typically difficult schedule.
Mississippi State will be playing BYU for the first time since 2001, when the Cougars won 41-38. The Bulldogs won the only previous meeting in Provo, Utah, 44-28 in 2000.
It is the Bulldogs’ first game west of the Rocky Mountains since they visited Oregon in 2002. It is their first regular season non-conference weekday game since playing Memphis at home in 2001.
The game in Provo is Mississippi State’s marquee non-conference game this year. And it comes in the midst of the difficult SEC schedule, fitting in the week after the Bulldogs play the Auburn Tigers.
It should be an interesting challenge to prepare for a tough team like BYU on a short week, preparing for a night game on Friday.
