Not only did Mississippi State spend Signing Day acquiring new recruits, the Bulldogs also grabbed a new assistant coach.
Maurice Linguist will be the new safeties coach in Starkville, Michael Bonner of the Jackson Clarion-Ledger reports.
Linguist, a Baylor graduate, spent the past two seasons as the cornerbacks coach and defensive passing game coordinator at Iowa State. The Cyclones allowed an average of 266.8 yards per game through the air last season, the fourth-worst average in the Big 12, though it was an improvement over a conference-worst 282.7 yards per game in his first season.
Linguist did help groom Iowa State free safety Kamari Cotton-Moya, who was named the Big 12’s Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2014.
Before Iowa State, Linguist was the co-defensive coordinator at Buffalo from 2012-2013.
