Mississippi State-Arkansas football odds, picks
Odds: Mississippi State is an 11.5 point-favorite over Arkansas
Picks: Via the SEC Country Arkansas team:
Mississippi State 38, Arkansas 20 — Trent Shadid
Arkansas should find more success on offense in this game than a week ago at LSU. However, it won’t be nearly enough to keep up with the Bulldogs. Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald should be in for a big day running and throwing.
Mississippi State 41, Arkansas 21 — Eric Bolin
The Razorbacks let Mississippi State run all over them last year and that was with a decent team. This Razorbacks team isn’t nearly as good, so don’t count on the Hogs pulling the upset here. Mostly, Arkansas just needs to avoid embarrassing itself. But that, too, has been easier said than done all year long.
Mississippi State 45, Arkansas 10 — John Nabors
The Hogs will not be close in this one. The Bulldogs are coming off a gut-wrenching loss to Alabama and will be looking for blood. Mississippi State runs all over the Razorbacks and puts them out of their misery early. The Hogs may need to follow the creed of my New York Jets: Just. End. The. Season.
Players to watch
QB Austin Allen — Trent Shadid
Allen saw his first action in over a month last Saturday in the Hogs’ loss at LSU. He was average at best, completing 13 of his 23 attempts for 140 yards. He’s set to start again this week, but it’s unknown if he is truly the first choice of the coaching staff. Cole Kelley, who started four games in Allen’s place, made the decision on who would start easy when he was arrested Sunday morning. Regardless of how he’s reclaimed his job, this is an extremely important game for Allen as the senior is running out of time to leave a positive mark at Arkansas.
LB De’Jon Harris — Eric Bolin
In a crummy year, one guy on the Arkansas defense has broken out. It’s Harris. He will have his hands full Saturday keeping tabs on Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald is one of the best running QBs the SEC has ever seen. The Hogs’ middle linebacker has spot duty.
QB Ty Storey— John Nabors
Why Ty, you ask? Easy. Austin Allen is still not 100 percent healthy. That was very evident against LSU. He short-armed throws and seemed fatigued by the end of the game. Kelley is suspended, so insert Storey in the second half and see what he can do. Who knows, he may surprise all of us.
