Mississippi State Baseball-Vanderbilt: Preview
Neither team hosted a regional, but that didn’t stop either team from being one of the six SEC teams to advance to the super regionals. Mississippi State was one out from elimination after losing the first game 20-10 to Oklahoma. Trailing regional host Florida State 2-0 in the top of the ninth. Then Elijah MacNamee hit a 3-run home run to give the Bulldogs a stunning 3-2 victory. The Bulldogs then squeaked by Samford and beat Oklahoma twice to claim the regional.
Vanderbilt meanwhile had none of the problems that Mississippi State did, as the Commodores did not drop a game in the Clemson Regional. In the clinching game of the regional, Vanderbilt smashed Clemson 19-6.
These two teams did meet for a series during the regular season but it took place in Starkville, Miss. The Commodores dominated that series as Vanderbilt won all three games and outscored the Bulldogs 19-4 over the course of the series. Vanderbilt will enter the series with an extra day of rest, as Mississippi State had to play on Monday.
