Dan Mullen had an interesting answer when talking about his kicker Monday.
When addressing Westin Graves’ recent struggles to reporters, the Mississippi State coach said, “We’re talking about going to some hypnotist,” as relayed by Ben Wait of the Commercial Dispatch. We assume Mullen was joking, but there’s a reason hypnotics were mentioned in the news conference.
Graves has missed 4 of his past 5 field-goal attempts dating to a loss to Auburn on Oct. 8. He was unsuccessful from 32 yards out in the third quarter of a victory over Texas A&M last Saturday.
Mullen on Westin Graves: We’re talking about going to some hypnotist. I wish he was shanking it, but he’s making good contact.

The recent slump comes after Graves enjoyed a strong start to the season. He made 8 of 10 field goals in the Bulldogs’ first four games. He was 2 for 4 on field-goal attempts in a loss to South Alabama on Sept. 3, but he converted two field goal tries each against South Carolina, LSU and Massachusetts.
