- UPDATE: The mother of Nero Nelson clarified her son’s comments to SEC Country on Friday. “He has been under a lot of stress from the recruiting process. To make things clear, my son loves the state of Mississippi. He loves Mississippi State football. That’s his first choice and he’s solid with his commitment. So we want to make sure people know that.”
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Nero Nelson plans on firming up his commitment in the next week or so, but by the sounds of it, a Mississippi school would be lucky to land his services.
That means Nelson’s commitment to Mississippi State is shaky at best.
Nelson, a 3-star athlete from Simmons High School (Hollandale, Miss.), said he wants to get out of his home state as soon as he can.
“For one, I do want to play (outside) of Mississippi,” Nelson told SEC Country. “I do want to get away from Mississippi, period. I like being away from Mississippi. I just want to get out and explore more schools and start a new life somewhere else.”
Those are strong comments from the Bulldogs commit. He still plans on taking an official visit to Mississippi State in the coming weeks, though.
Nelson is rated as the nation’s No. 27 athlete and No. 18 overall prospect in the state of Mississippi.
