Mississippi State’s Westin Graves endured one of the worst feelings a kicker can experience Saturday when he watched his teammates rally from a late score and drive down the field and put him in position for the game-winning field goal, only to watch his kick hit the upright.
The Bulldogs lost in the final seconds in that stunning fashion, 21-20 to South Alabama, and Graves clearly blamed himself. He took to Twitter hours later an issued an apology.
Bulldog fans, I'm truly sorry for letting you down. I will do everything possible to come back stronger from this. Hailstate and God bless.

Of course a lot of things went wrong for the Bulldogs on Saturday to lose this one. They were four-touchdown favorites, after all. So it’s a bit over the top for anyone to pin the loss completely on Graves.
It’s a credit to him for showing the maturity to take responsibility for his missed kick.
