Mississippi State lands first 4-star commit in 2016 class
Mississippi State bolstered its recruiting class with the addition of 4-star defensive end Emmit Gooden, according to Courtney Cronin of The Clarion-Ledger.
A Brownsville, Tenn., native, Gooden picked Mississippi State over Tennessee and LSU. The 6-foot-4, 280 pound prospect was rated as the No. 7 player in the state by 247Sports.com.
Gooden also has a connection to Mississippi State. He is the brother of Bulldogs basketball player Jarvis Varnado. He took an official visit to Starkville, Miss. last weekend.
Gooden marks the 15th commitment in MSU’s class of 2016, but he is the first 4-star recruit in the class. Mississippi State’s class is currently ranked 13th in the SEC by 247Sports. Gooden is the fourth defensive lineman in Mississippi State’s 2016 class.
