Mississippi State landed a local prospect to its 2018 recruiting class.
Four-star athlete/running back Marcus Murphy committed to the Bulldogs on Tuesday, but also left the door open for other teams to potentially sway him.
“I’ve decided to VERBALLY COMMIT to Mississippi State University,” Murphy revealed in a Twitter announcement. “I would still love to let other teams recruit me & show interest in my talent.”
Murphy is rated as the nation’s No. 14 athlete in the Class of 2018 and the No. 2 overall prospect in the state of Mississippi, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Mississippi State is the 6-foot-1, 170-pound West Point, Miss., native’s only offer, but he also garnered interest from Ole Miss and Alabama. He is Mississippi State’s third 2018 commitment.
Murphy’s commitment comes at a great time for the Bulldogs after Saahdiq Charles, a three-star offensive lineman from Madison, Miss., chose LSU over Mississippi State minutes before Murphy’s announcement.
