For the second day in a row, Mississippi State has landed a 4-star pass rusher. After Mississippi State got a commitment from Ani Izuchukwu on Wednesday, De’Monte Russell announced his plans Thursday to join Joe Moorhead and the Bulldogs.
Russell is a 4-star recruit in the 2019 class from Provine High School in Jackson, Miss. He is ranked as the No. 12 player in the state and the No. 13 weakside defensive end in the country, according to the 247Sports composite.

Russell chose Mississippi over the likes of Florida, Tennessee and Florida State, which all had offered the 6-foot-5 pass rusher.
With Russell in the class, Mississippi State has the No. 10 class in the country, sitting just behind Alabama in the 247Sports composite rankings. The Bulldogs’ top 3 commits are defensive ends, as Russell joins Izuchukwu and Charles Moore, a 4-star strongside DE from Louisville, Miss. Izuchukwu plays for Davidson Academy in Nashville, Tenn.
Mississippi State has a number of strong defensive linemen returning to the 2018 team, including Montez Sweat and Jeffery Simmons. The Bulldogs won 10 games a season ago, but coach Dan Mullen bolted for Florida in the offseason. He was replaced by Moorhead, who was Penn State’s offensive coordinator. As of Thursday evening, Florida has the No. 14 class in the country for 2019.
The next time fans can see Mississippi State in action will be on Saturday, April 21, when the Bulldogs hold their spring game. It is scheduled for a 4 p.m. kickoff on the SEC Network.
