Two Mississippi State players have seen their careers end prematurely because of injuries, as tight end Gus Walley and offensive lineman Jake Thomas are no longer on the team, according to Logan Lowery of The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal.
Bulldogs coach Dan Mullen referenced that Walley’s career was in question last season after sustaining multiple concussions, according to Michael Bonner of the Clarion Ledger.
Walley played in eight games and started seven times in 2015, totaling 19 receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown. The 6-foot-4, 242-pounder, who also missed all of 2013 after having Tommy John surgery, played his last game against Arkansas.
Thomas played in two games in 2014, but he did not play at all last season, as a backup guard. Mullen said Thomas “was going through some injury stuff” in late October, according to Lowery. He will reportedly stay at Mississippi State to finish his degree.
