Mississippi State has an answer at quarterback. Sort of.
As reported by David Brandt of the Associated Press, Bulldogs coach Dan Mullen said Tuesday that both junior Damian Williams and sophomore Nick Fitzgerald will receive playing time when Mississippi State hosts South Alabama in the season opener on Saturday.
“I was wanting complete clarity and having a defined No. 1,” Mullen said, via Brandt. “But I don’t think there is one yet so I plan on us playing more than one in the first quarter.”
The Bulldogs’ quarterback situation has been a question as they move forward without former signal-caller Dak Prescott, who’s now enjoying early success with the Dallas Cowboys.
Fall camp began with four options as potential starters. But in time, Williams and Fitzgerald separated themselves. Redshirt freshman Nick Tiano likely will be the third option.
