The Bulldogs racked up a school-record 669 yards of total offense in beating Samford 56-41 on Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium to improve to 3-5. Quarterback Nick Fitzgerald went 20 of 35 for 417 yards with 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Fitzgerald also had 119 yards rushing with 2 touchdowns on 19 carries.

It was a good thing Mississippi State’s offense came to play. Samford racked up 627 yards, with 468 coming through the air from quarterback Devlin Hodgers on 42-of-69 passing. He had 4 touchdowns with 3 interceptions.
The only number that matters is the final score, though.
On this day, Mississippi State survived in a shootout, thanks to an offensive day to remember. Thank goodness for historic offensive efforts, Mississippi State fans.
