Mississippi State landed top JUCO defensive tackle Deion Pope in its 2017 signing class, but the Bulldogs won’t get the chance to see him on the field this fall.
On Wednesday, the former 3-star recruit from Collins, Miss., announced via Twitter that he will transfer from Mississippi State to Jackson State. He cited moving closer to home as his explanation in the note:

Pope, who played previously at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, committed to the Bulldogs in July and following through with his commitment on JUCO signing day in December. He also visited Auburn before settling on the Bulldogs.
Pope was ranked as the No. 1 JUCO defensive tackle and No. 23 overall JUCO prospect in the Class of 2017, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
