Jeffery Simmons released a statement on Facebook apologizing for an incident, and there is a video that shows the Mississippi State signee striking a woman, according to WCBI.com’s Summer Rascoll.
Simmons apologized to Sophia Taylor and her family in the statement, but Rascoll reported it is not clear who is involved in the altercation with Simmons in the video. Simmons wrote that he lost his temper after overhearing someone speak badly about his deceased nephews. Alex McDaniel of Gridiron Now posted a screengrab of Simmons’ reported statement on Twitter.
Simmons signed with Mississippi State on National Signing Day. The Macon, Miss., native is rated as the top prospect in the state and No. 3 defensive end in the country, according to 247Sports.com composite rankings. Macon Police has not released a statement on the matter.
