Mississippi State looks like it has a new defensive coordinator, as the Bulldogs are set to name Southern Cal’s Peter Sirmon to the position, according to Lindsey Thiry of the LA Times.
Sirmon has served as the linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator at USC since December of 2013. He will replace Manny Diaz, who left Mississippi State to take the same position at Miami.
During his time at USC, Sirmon helped the Trojans land the No. 10 recruiting class in 2014 and the No. 2 class in 2015.
Sirmon, an Oregon graduate, has spent the majority of his coaching career on the West Coast. After playing seven seasons in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans, Sirmon served as the linebackers coach at Central Washington and as a graduate assistant at Oregon.
He also has some experience in the SEC, as Sirmon worked as a graduate assistant at Tennessee in 2010 before coaching the linebackers in 2011. He also coached linebackers at Washington from 2012-13.
