It’s official. Mississippi State will head to Charlotte to take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack in the Belk Bowl. ESPN’s Brett McMurphy originally broke the news Sunday afternoon, but the report was confirmed by Mississippi State’s official twitter account on Sunday evening.
The game will take place at 3:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Dec. 30 in Bank of America Stadium. It is the sixth consecutive season Mississippi State has played a bowl game.
The Bulldogs are 8-4 (4-4 SEC) this season, while the Wolfpack went 7-5. N.C. State lost three of its last five games of the season, matchups with Clemson, Florida State and North Carolina — all teams ranked in the top 10 of the College Football Playoff ranking.
Mississippi State won five of its last seven games, its two losses coming in the final three games of the season at the hands of Alabama and Ole Miss.
The Bulldogs are 3-2 in bowl games under Mullen, including a 49-34 loss to Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl last season that quarterback Dak Prescott said has haunted him. Great news for him and the Bulldogs, cowbells will be allowed at the Belk Bowl, so Prescott will have a familiar soundtrack when he takes the field in three weeks.
