Emmit Gooden threw Mississippi State a real curveball on Wednesday morning.
Gooden, a 4-star defensive end commit out of Haywood High School (Brownsville, Tenn.), announced via Twitter that he’ll be enrolling at Holmes Community College in Mississippi. That decision would likely delay his ability to play for a Division I program until at least the 2018 season.
“It’s official I will be enroll at Holmes Community College ? Minor Setback 4 A Major Comeback,” Gooden tweeted.
Gooden had initially committed to the Bulldogs on Dec. 17 over a number of top-tier programs after taking an official visit five days earlier. The 6-foot-4, 280-pounder was one of two 4-stars pledged to the school for 2016.
He is rated the No. 14 strongside defensive end in the nation and the seventh-best recruit from Tennessee.
