Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald doesn’t seem too concerned about giving Ole Miss some bulletin board material ahead of Thursday’s Egg Bowl.
In an interview with SEC Network’s Laura Rutledge, Fitzgerald referred to the Egg Bowl trophy as “bae” and talked some trash in the process:

That was a little weird, Nick, but we’ll let it slide. It also probably shouldn’t be ignored that Rutledge referred to the trophy as “the goat.” For reference, here’s what the trophy looks like.
Rutledge went back to confirm that Fitzgerald did call a trophy “bae” and then said “I hope you treat her very nicely.” Fitzgerald, without skipping a beat, said “I do, we have been actually. We have been treating her very nicely.”
Mississippi State does have bragging rights and ownership of the trophy, as the Bulldogs won 55-20 in Oxford last season. But the Rebels do hold a 66-44-6 advantage in the all-time series, so maybe Fitzgerald should back off that stance a bit.
In any event, Saturday’s game in Starkville should be less awkward than the beginning to this interview.
