Wow, this is bad.
Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald was stopped on a fourth-down run at Samford’s 1-yard line in the second quarter Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium. His helmet popped off before he crossed the goal line with the ball, so officials overturned a touchdown that would have given Mississippi State a 27-13 lead.
However, closer inspection of the play shows the officials missed a bad facemask penalty. Check out the clip below:

Yikes, it doesn’t get much more obvious than that.
Yes, it’s hard to catch everything. Yes, there were many bodies near Fitzgerald. And yes, we ask a bunch of officials each Saturday.
Still, this was a big moment. The call should have been made.
Mississippi State fans shouldn’t be happy about this.
