Happy Tuesday, Ole Miss fans.
Ole Miss will find out what bowl game it will play in this weekend, but the next set of College Football Playoff rankings will give you a good idea of the Rebels’ postseason destination. If Ole Miss is ahead of or even close to Florida in the rankings, you can assume the Rebels would be Sugar Bowl-bound with a Gators loss in Saturday’s SEC Championship Game.
Here are two things to know:
- Speaking of the SEC championship game, the Rebels would have had a chance to beat Florida themselves if they could’ve stopped Arkansas’ crazy fourth-and-25 lateral in an overtime loss to the Razorbacks. Coach Hugh Freeze mentioned it following the Rebels’ Egg Bowl win, and you have to give him credit for not shying away from it.
- With back-to-back dominant performances against LSU and Mississippi State, Ole Miss climbed back to No. 2 in this week’s SEC Country power poll. Something tells me the Rebels would love to have another shot to play Florida and Memphis (and Arkansas for that matter).
Other Ole Miss news from around the Internet
- ESPN’s Greg Ostendorf had a nice story focusing on how close Ole Miss was to winning the SEC West and making its first appearance in the SEC championship game.
- Ole Miss star defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche was named the SEC’s co-defensive lineman of the week. Nkemdiche had four tackles, including 1.5 sacks, in the Egg Bowl.
