Happy Thursday, Ole Miss fans!
It’s two days until the No. 18 Rebels take on Arkansas, and the weather looks as though it could play a role in Saturday’s contest. The forecast changes seemingly every couple of hours, but maybe Ole Miss will get lucky and find a window that starts around 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday. After seeing how the Rebels did in the rain against the Razorbacks last season, I’m sure that’s the last thing coach Hugh Freeze wants to deal with this weekend.
Here are two things to know:
- Other than Mother Nature, Ole Miss’ biggest task against Arkansas could be the Razorbacks’ tight ends. The Razorbacks’ Hunter Henry is among the nation’s best at the position, and quarterback Brandon Allen does a nice job of locating his big targets in the play-action passing game. Luckily for the Rebels, defensive back Tony Conner will be back in the mix to help slow down those tight ends.
- On Tuesday, Ole Miss found out they were ranked No. 18 in the first College Football Playoff rankings. No one expects the Rebels to be in the Playoff, but if Ole Miss keeps winning and gets some help from around the country, the conversation could get very real.
Other Ole Miss news from around the Internet
- Ben Garrett of the Ole Miss Spirit had a nice write-up from Wednesday’s practice. There’s no real news of note, but Freeze and the Rebels coaching staff are obviously impressed with Arkansas’ defensive front.
- Parrish Alford of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal wrote a story on how the Arkansas defense is planning for Ole Miss. The play of left tackle Laremy Tunsil hasn’t gone unnoticed to the Razorbacks’ coaching staff.
