Could it be 2013 all over again for Ole Miss?
Greg Little, a 5-star offensive tackle from Allen High School (Allen, Texas) committed to Ole Miss over Alabama, UGA, Auburn and LSU, according to a video from Bleacher Report.
Little and Shea Patterson, the 5-star QB commit from IMG Academy, are arguably the most touted Ole Miss recruits since the Rebels had the highest-rated class in school history in 2013, when their class came in at No. 9 in the nation. It was led by Robert Nkemdiche, Laquon Treadwell and Laremy Tunsil — all of whom are expected to be NFL first-rounders.
So why Ole Miss for Little?
Well, one reason is because Rebels’ All-American tackle Laremy Tunsil is almost a 100 percent certainty to declare for the NFL draft at the conclusion of the season. Tunsil is a projected top-3 pick, according to SEC Country’s draft analyst Trevor Sikkema.
With a projected need at left tackle for Ole Miss, Little could step on to campus from day one and start on the offensive line.
On the other hand, Alabama, which was Little’s No. 2 school, doesn’t have an immediate need at left tackle because Cam Robinson is going to anchor that offensive line next season. The Crimson Tide also have other top recruits committed to the school, so immediate playing time would not be an automatic in Tuscaloosa.
We also could have been given a hint at his decision when Little set up an official visit to Ole Miss the weekend before National Signing Day in February. It would be a bit weird if he ended up committing to Alabama or a different school and wound up being on Ole Miss’ campus days before signing his paperwork to enroll at Alabama.
Now that Little is on board, Ole Miss has the nation’s No. 1 quarterback in Patterson and the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle in Little. Could Rashan Gary, the nation’s No. 1 player, also get in the mix? The 5-star defensive tackle is considering taking an official visit to Ole Miss, and it should be noted that Gary and Little are good friends.
With the addition of Little, Ole Miss has jumped all the way up to No. 3 in 247Sports’ recruiting team rankings. It would be the Rebels’ best class ever if they finished there.
Little becomes the Rebels’ 20th commit and third offensive tackle commit.
