Does Chad Kelly have too much confidence in his wide receivers?
Nobody would blame him with the host of talented wideouts that the Rebels possess, but the Ole Miss quarterback admits he shouldn’t make some throws he does.
“That’s exactly it,” Kelly said, according to the Oxford Eagle’s Davis Potter. “I see those guys every single day make fantastic catches and do this and that. That’s where I get it in my head that, ‘Hey, they can make a play right here.’ But like I said, if it’s not there, throw it away.”
Kelly, in his senior season in Oxford, ranks second in the SEC with 319.2 passing yards per game to go along with 13 touchdowns.
But the Rebels signal caller has accounted for four interceptions, and seven turnovers over all.
“I’ve just got to keep on practicing that,” Kelly said, per Potter. “That’s just who I am. I like to sling it around a little bit. Sometimes that’ll get the best of me, and the defense makes a good play.”
Coach Hugh Freeze knows what he is getting in Kelly, though, and he’s not complaining.
Neither are any of the Rebels.
“The only thing (head coach Hugh Freeze) is not happy is with me throwing off my back foot in the red zone when we’re up 30 points,” Kelly said, according to Potter. “I just have to keep working.”
