Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze proved to be the difference in the Special Olympics Unified Egg Bowl in Oxford, Miss. on Monday.
The Unified Rebels defeated the Unified Bulldogs 25-24 in a flag football game, which featured Special Olympic athletes from around Mississippi.
The two teams raised money in the week leading up to the game, and the team who raised the most money was awarded three points. Therefore, Freeze, who was in attendance, took out his wallet and made a $1,000 donation to get Ole Miss three points, according to John Davis of the Oxford Citizen.
The three points narrowed the Unified Bulldogs’ lead and set up the game-winning touchdown for the Unified Rebels with just 17 seconds left in the game, according to Davis.
If the flag football game is any indication, Ole Miss may be pretty happy about the outcome of this year’s Egg Bowl in Starkville, Miss. on Nov. 28. The Unified Rebels won last year’s contest 23-17 before Ole Miss defeated Mississippi State 31-17.
