Ole Miss (4-5, 1-4 SEC) travels to face eighth-ranked Texas A&M (7-2, 4-2) at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday in College Station, Texas. With Chad Kelly’s senior year cut short by a knee injury, Rebels coach Hugh Freeze must way the pros and cons of burning the redshirt of true freshman quarterback Shea Patterson. In a lost year, does Freeze turn to the former five-star recruit, perhaps limiting his future time in Oxford?
If it’s not Patterson, Freeze would have to turn to Jason Pellerin. Pellerin doesn’t have much more experience than Patterson — Pellerin is a redshirt freshman — but he’s seen action in six games this year.
Freeze has to balance the weight of the present and the weight of the future. While Ole Miss’ season hasn’t gone as planned, Saturday night at Kyle Field isn’t lacking in intrigue.
