Ole Miss will unveil its new Letterwinner Walk next fall and announced on Thursday that the walk will be named after former Rebels quarterback and College Football Hall of Famer Jake Gibbs.
Gibbs led Ole Miss to a pair of national titles from 1958-1960 and was awarded several honors in 1960 including: SEC Player of the Year, All-SEC, first-team All-American and finished No. 3 in the Heisman Trophy voting.
Although he was successful as a quarterback for Ole Miss, Gibbs also starred on the baseball team and went on to play 10 seasons in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees.
Gibbs returned to Ole Miss and coached baseball for 19 years before retiring with 485 wins, a school record which was surpassed in 2013 by current Rebels coach Mike Bianco.
The Jake Gibbs Letterwinner Walk and plaza are set to be revealed in Oct. 2016.
