NFL.com senior analyst Gil Brandt believes Ole Miss has a future top NFL draft prospect at quarterback. No, it’s not Chad Kelly.
Brandt proclaimed on Twitter Wednesday morning that former five-star recruit Shea Patterson will eventually be a quarterback professional teams will covet once he enters the NFL draft.
Patterson’s accolades as a recruit certainly foreshadow a bright future ahead. Patterson was rated as the No. 4 player nationally in the Class of 2016 and was rated the No. 1 pro-style quarterback in the class, according to 247Sports composite rankings.
It is a bold claim to make about a player who has yet to take a collegiate snap, but Brandt has scouted and evaluated talent in the NFL for decades and his high praise should be taken very seriously.
Unfortunately, NFL scouts likely won’t get an opportunity to see Patterson until 2017, as he will likely serve as Kelly’s backup during his first season in Oxford.
