The Ole Miss basketball team went on the road on Saturday and pulled out a win. Even if it was against the SEC’s worst team and in a close game, a win is a win.
The Rebels got double-doubles from both Sebastian Saiz and Terence Davis as Ole Miss held off the Tigers to pick up a second consecutive SEC win, 75-71.
The Rebels move to 12-7 and 3-4 in the SEC, while Missouri dropped its 10th straight game to fall to 5-13 and 0-6 in conference play. The win for Ole Miss comes after knocking off Tennessee earlier in the week.
Player of the game: Terence Davis
As mentioned above, Davis and Siaz both had double-doubles. So what gives Davis the nod? He added four assists to his 18 points and 11 rebounds. Siaz added 19 points and 10 rebounds. Davis also played 39 minutes. He was huge for the Rebels.
Stat line: Free throws
These teams were dead even in just about every category, with the exception of free throws. Ole Miss knocked down 17 of its 23 attempts. Missouri, on the other hand, hit 6 of its 17 attempts. And that proved to be the difference.
Turning point: Mizzou retaking the lead
The Tigers, thanks to 26 points from Kevin Puryear, were able to hang with the Rebels and actually took a 57-56 lead with 7:34 remaining.
But Ole Miss had an excellent response, as the Rebels went on an 11-1 run to reclaim the lead for good. Missouri pulled it within two late, but a missed free throw prevented the Tigers from getting any closer.
What’s next for Ole Miss basketball
The Rebels host two Texas teams next week, as Texas A&M comes to The Pavilion on Wednesday night. On Saturday, Ole Miss hosts No. 6 Baylor as a part of the Big 12-SEC challenge. The Aggies pulled off a miraculous comeback win over Georgia on Saturday, 63-62. Tip between the Aggies and Rebels is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
