Ole Miss officials reportedly spoke with former Ohio State basketball coach Thad Matta recently.
Matta met with Ole Miss officials on Friday in Oxford, according to a report from ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.
Per Goodman’s report, Matta “is interested in returning to coaching,” after the former Buckeyes coach parted ways with Ohio State last June following a 13-season run in Columbus.
Ole Miss fans on Twitter were excited Friday after news of Matta’s appearance in Oxford surfaced. Matta led Ohio State to the national title game in 2007 and a Final Four appearance in 2012.
Ole Miss is trying to replace Andy Kennedy, who resigned from his post last month. Landing Matta would be a strong development for the Rebels as they try to compete within an improved SEC basketball landscape.
We’ll see what comes of this situation, but it sounds promising for Rebels fans. Stay tuned.
