As players converge on Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg, Miss., for the annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game, Benito Jones will be using his down time to recruit for Ole Miss.
The Rebels commit and four-star defensive tackle has two names in mind: Mississippi teammates Jeffery Simmons (Noxubee County, Miss.) and A.J. Brown (Starkville, Miss.). Both are considered two of the top prospects in this year’s recruiting cycle. Simmons is rated as the top prospect in all of Mississippi and Brown, a receiver, the fourth.
How confident is Jones in landing the Mississippi duo?
“80 percent,” he told SEC Country.
Jones said this week will be critically important. It’s likely the last time all three will be located in one area.
The 6-foot-2, 260-pound senior from Waynesboro, Miss., lives roughly two hours away from both Brown and Simmons. Members of both teams will bunk at Camp Shelby until Saturday.
“It’s really important,” Jones said. “This could be my last time with some of these guys and the last time playing with them. I could be playing against them at other SEC schools, but it’s the last time playing on the same team together.”
Jones is rated as the No. 3 player in Mississippi.
