Ole Miss star defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche was injured during the second quarter against Memphis on Saturday. He was taken to the locker room for further evaluation.
Update: Nkemdiche has sustained a concussion and will not return in the second half, according to ESPN.
Nkemdiche came in as a fullback for the Rebels offense on 3rd-and-1. The 6-foot-4, 296-pounder took the handoff and appeared to land awkwardly on the football.
The Loganville, Ga., native has been utilized in Ole Miss’ jumbo package this season. Nkemdiche had two rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown coming into the weekend. He is almost universally regarded as a top-5 pick in next April’s NFL draft if he declares.
