Following a dominating 38-17 win over LSU last Saturday, Ole Miss (8-3, 5-2 SEC) jumped to No. 18 in the College Football Playoff rankings that were announced Tuesday.
The Rebels are battling Florida and Mississippi State in the race to become the top-ranked SEC team in order to earn a berth in the Sugar Bowl. The Gators are No. 12, and the Bulldogs are No. 21 in this week’s rankings.
Ole Miss can also play its way into the Sugar Bowl if the Rebels win the SEC West. For that to happen, the Rebels need to win Saturday against Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl and have Auburn upset Alabama.
If the Crimson Tide take care of business, Ole Miss can still get a Sugar Bowl berth with a win over the Bulldogs paired with Florida losses to Florida State and Alabama over the next two weeks. In that scenario, the Rebels could potentially jump the Gators in the Playoff rankings.
Ole Miss was ranked No. 19 in both the Associated Press and Amway Coaches polls this week.
