After missing on several linebacker targets on National Signing Day, Ole Miss has added Rommel Mageo, a graduate transfer from Oregon State, assistant offensive line coach and coordinator of recruiting development Ben Aigamaua said on Twitter Wednesday.
Mageo, who will have one year of eligibility, will join the Rebels in June, according to Chuck Rounsaville of the Ole Miss Spirit.
“Welcome the Uso Rommel Mageo to the Ole Miss Aiga!” Aigamaua tweeted, referencing Mageo’s Samoan heritage. “It’s not how you start, it’s how you FINish!”
Mageo led Oregon State in tackles last season with 87. The 6-foot-2, 233-pounder also had two sacks, two tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, one quarterback hurry and a pass breakup.
He will provide instant depth at a position that is lacking in bodies.
DeMarquis Gates and Terry Caldwell are the only two returning linebackers with extensive playing time. Freshman Donta Evans, who is an early enrollee, will get a long look in his first year, and redshirt freshman Shawn Curtis is expected to have a big role in 2016.
