It’s been one week since Ole Miss linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche was reportedly taken to the intensive care unit of an Oxford, Miss., hospital, and Nkemdiche is still under medical supervision, according to coach Hugh Freeze.
“He continues to be progressing very well,” Freeze told reporters Monday. “… We’re supporting he and his family in every way that we can here. It’s kind of under the doctor’s supervision as to what the next steps are.”
Nkemdiche missed last Saturday’s win against LSU and could very well miss Saturday’s game against Mississippi State. No decision has been made about his playing status.
“That would be up to (the medical staff),” Freeze said. “I’m not real sure on Monday where that stands. We’ll lean on the medical staff, and whatever they advise us to do, that’s what we’ll do.”
Nkemdiche was reportedly found last Monday after not showing up to team meetings the previous day. He was honored as a part of Senior Day this past Saturday, and his brother, junior defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche, stood in his place on the field.
