Former Ole Miss three-sport star Eddie Crawford has passed away at age 82 after a brief illness, according to a release from Ole Miss Athletics.
Crawford lettered for the Rebels in football, baseball and basketball from 1953-56. He’s the last Ole Miss athlete to accomplish that feat, according to the release.
He was the starting left running back in 1954-55 and once scored 4 touchdowns against LSU in Death Valley.
He continued to serve on Ole Miss’ campus, including being an interim athletic director in 1998, until his official retirement in 2005.
“Eddie Crawford has given more than he received,” University of Mississippi Chancellor Emeritus Robert Khayat said in a statement. “As an unofficial ambassador for Ole Miss for more than 60 years, he served our university in virtually every capacity. He and his beloved wife, Shirley, were always friends of students, representatives of the university at weddings, funerals and social events and at state and national sports events.”
He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 60 years, as well as two children and two grandchildren. Arrangements are incomplete, per the release.
