Ole Miss, Nkemdiche family release statement on status of hospitalized Denzel Nkemdiche
Ole Miss senior linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche, who has been hospitalized since Monday, has improved but will not play Saturday against LSU, according to a joint statement from Beverly and Sunday Nkemdiche and Rebels coach Hugh Freeze.
“Denzel’s condition has improved as of today, and he will remain in the hospital,” the statement read. “His well being is all that matters right now, and we are making sure he receives the highest level of medical care. While his condition is not life-threatening, he will not play this weekend. We thank the Ole Miss family for their concern and encouragement, and we appreciate everyone respecting the family’s privacy during this time.”
Nkemdiche has spent multiple days in the intensive care unit of an Oxford hospital this week, according to Neal McCready of RebelGrove.com. Nkemdiche did not report for team meetings on Sunday and was “found” and taken to the hospital Monday, according to McCready. The reason for his hospitalization is still undisclosed.
Nkemdiche has a team-high 53 tackles, including 6.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks.
