Ole Miss police are investigating altercation between fan and security officer
Campus police at Ole Miss are investigating an altercation that happened between a fan and a police officer during the Rebels’ 38-17 win this past Saturday, according to WMC Action News 5.
The incident was first made public on Facebook by Holly Barnes, whose husband was involved in the incident.
Barnes posted a video of the altercation, which appears to show an officer striking her husband.
According to Barnes, her husband was arrested and wasn’t taken to the hospital until about four hours after the incident. He was diagnosed with “a concussion, fractures to his orbital wall and maxillary sinus and contusions to the tissues of his eyes,” according to Barnes’ Facebook post.

“The University of Mississippi Police Department is aware of the video of an incident taking place at the Ole Miss-LSU football game,” the university police said in a statement. “The officers involved are not officers with the University Police Department, but are certified officers from other jurisdictions hired to work security at home football games. The University of Mississippi Police Department takes this situation seriously, and is currently investigating the incident. We encourage anyone that witnessed the event to contact the department at 662-915-7234 or email us at email@example.com.”
Barnes also said the officer approached her husband because of a complaint that was directed towards someone sitting a couple of rows above her.
The Oxford Police Department also noted via Twitter that none of its officers was involved in the altercation.
