A common refrain in recruiting is “commit to a school, not a coach.” That, evidently, is what 2019 defensive end Jamond Gordon did on Tuesday night, committing to Ole Miss despite the near certainty that the Rebels will have an entirely new coaching staff by the time he hits campus:

With that said, Gordon specifically singled out the current coaching staff in his commitment tweet, so it’s difficult to know his exact reasons for making the commitment official at this time.
Regardless, if Ole Miss is able to hang on to Gordon by Signing Day 2019, the Rebels figure to get a heck of a player. According to 247Sports, Gordon already stands 6-foot-4, 265 pounds, and also holds an offer from Tennessee. Considering how far away from graduation he is, it would not be surprising to see other big-time offers roll in in the near future.
